Tajweed is more formally incorporated into our Islamic Studies program. However, we do also offer seminars designed to provide a short introduction to these courses and give students the capacity to discover an area of Arabic and Islamic culture they may not have previously had the ability to explore.
This course familiarises you with the science of Arabic pronunciation and you will learn to recite the Qur’an as it was first revealed by the Prophet Muhammad. Tajweed is a set of formalised rules and regulations that govern the way the Qur’an is to be recited, and the knowledge and application of these rules will dramatically improve your pronunciation and fluency in reading and speaking.
This activity will also provide an official interpretation and an outline of the history and context within which each Sura was revealed to give the students a more full understanding of the message of the Qur’an.
This course is open for anyone who is interested in learning about recitation and the science of Tajweed, however a basic ability to read and write in Arabic is required.
